The official day for National Girls and Women in Sports Day is 1 February, but we are observing this event on 31 January with a Beginners Fencing Clinic for girls and women starting at 7pm and ending at 8:30pm. The goal is simple – introduce girls and women to our sport, honor the achievement of women in our sport, and start more girls and women along the path to hitting with swords. The price is right – free. The requirements are simple – age 7 to 70+, come wearing comfortable athletic clothes you can move in with athletic shoes and a T-shirt (it gets warm inside a fencing jacket). We will fit you for protective equipment, teach you basic techniques in the sport, and put you on the strip for your first bout. Our staff for the evening are our women fencers, including a former alternate of the US National Veterans Team. So come fence. NGWSD flier.
This is the 31st annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Our clinic is one of two registered NGWSD events in the metro Richmond area.
