RULES

The Salle Ladder Competition is a quarterly competition conducted to provide friendly competition for the members of the Salle and offer competitive bout training for our competition team.

1.  Periods:  The Ladder runs from 1 August to 1 November, 1 November to 1 February, 1 February to 1 May, and 1 May to 1 August each year.  Each period is a separate competition.

2.  Weapons:  The Ladder is competed in Foil, Epee, Sabre, and One Touch Epee (either classical rules or modern pentathlon rules).

3.  Entries:  All amateur members of Salle Green are eligible to compete in the Ladder.

4.  Form of Competition:

a.  Fencers are initially listed on the ladder seeded in reverse order based on their standings in the Salle Three Weapons Championship on the date that the ladder is drawn.

b.  Fencers may challenge a fencer up to 2 places above them on the ladder.  If the challenger wins the bout, he or she replaces the challenged fencer, and the loser, and all fencers below him or her, slips down one place on the ladder.  If the challenger loses there is no change in ladder positions.  On open fencing days fencers may challenge the next person above them on the ladder who is present in the Salle.  Fencers are encouraged to challenge often and regularly.

c.  Fencers are responsible for arranging their own challenge bouts, and bouts may be fought any time the Salle is open.

5.  Late Entries: Late entries by new members or students in Beginners' Classes enter at the bottom of the Ladder.

6.  Awards:  At the end of the competition, those fencers who have actively participated in Ladder bouts are ranked in the order of finishing as 1st, 2nd, etc. place.  Places 1 through 3 receive medals.  Fencers receive points toward the Salle Three Weapons Championship based on their placing and the number of competitors in the Ladder.  Fencers who enter but do not participate in the Ladder for a given quarter receive no points, and are not counted in the final placement.

7.  Computer Support:  The Ladder is managed using the Challenge Ladder module of GamePlan software developed by Greencourt Software, Inc.
