Every year USA Fencing names high-school student athletes who maintain high grade point averages to the USA Fencing All Academic Team. In 2016 a total of 509 fencers were selected for one of the three levels of the program:
- First Team – grade point average of 3.85 and above
- Second Team – grade point average of 3.7 to 3.84
- Honorable Mention – grade point average of 3.5 to 3.69
Of the 16 Virginia high school students honored, 3 were Salle Green fencers. The National Fencing Club Rankings (a commercial rating service) recognized Salle Green as 49th ranked fencing club in the country in its support of the All-Academic Team (story at http://nationalfencingclubrankings.com/top-fencing-clubs-academic-team-members-2015-2016/).
We strongly support the All-Academic Team program, identify young athletes with the potential to be selected, and encourage their academic success. We understand that student athletes have the challenge of being both successful in school and in sport, and that smart athletes have a high potential to be excellent athletes in college and to have enhanced opportunities for success in the work world.
